This map, created in Google Fusion Tables, shows the distribution of poverty across the state of Tennessee. The map shows that certain counties along the border of the state are stricken with drastically higher poverty levels than those counties in close proximity to major metropolitan areas, the highest being Lake County which is situated in the northwestern corner of Tennessee. Lake County has a poverty level of 44.8%, followed by Hancock County which is situated directly opposite Lake county in the northeastern corner of the state, with a poverty level of 31.8%. These two counties are the "curve busters" in the state. All other counties have a poverty rate between 28.7% (both Johnson and Lauderdale counties) and 6.6% in Williamson County, which happens to be the county with the highest median income in the state.
